FUNCTIONING OF THE BADMINTON CLUB SYSTEM: THE EXPERIENCE OF FRANCE

Abstract

France is one of the leading European countries in badminton development, demonstrating strong international sporting performance and the largest population of badminton players in Europe. A key factor behind this success is its well-developed club system. The French experience is particularly relevant for Ukraine in the context of improving the activities of sports federations and strengthening the club-based model of sport. Purpose is to examine the organization of the badminton club system in France and identify practices that may be implemented in Ukraine. Methods. Analysis of scientific literature, official documents, and information published on the websites of relevant organizations; synthesis and generalization; comparative analysis; and a systems approach. Results. The organizational structure of the French Badminton Federation is based on the country’s administrative-territorial system and includes national, regional, departmental, and club levels. The Federation unites 1.946 clubs and more than 241.000 licensed participants, while approximately one million people regularly play badminton. Sports clubs serve as the primary organizational unit of the system. The development of badminton is supported by mandatory licensing, a multi-level governance structure, cooperation between clubs and educational institutions, digital management tools, and programmes promoting inclusion and social participation. Conclusions. The effectiveness of the French badminton model is ensured by coordinated governance at all levels, from grassroots participation to elite sport. Sports clubs play a central role in athlete development and mass participation, while cooperation between clubs, regional organizations, and the national federation provides continuity within the system. The integration of education and club sport, the recognition of sports clubs as the key organizational unit, digital registration systems, licensing of athletes and coaches, and support programmes for different participant groups represent practices with considerable potential for implementation in Ukraine
